MPR solicitors secure acquittal for non-British HNW charged with sexual assault on an aircraft

  • Posted

The Firm’s HNW department secured an acquittal in the Crown Court in a complex sexual assault allegation on board a transatlantic flight from the US to the UK. The case involved serious and complex issues of section 34 adverse inferences, non-disclosure issues, cross-border enquiries, calling live evidence in person and evidence by video link with an 8 hour time difference, instruction of reconstruction expert and Private Investigators and Social Media analysis expert; working closely with the client on damage reputation limitation and liaising with a number of official agencies including the Home Office to secure bail at the first appearance in court with the right to leave the jurisdiction pending the trial.

The trial was meticulously prepared over a period of 8 months and the MPR defence team delivered on performance and client satisfaction culminating in an acquittal in the Crown Court. A leading Queens Counsel was instructed for the trial and the firm was able to put together an effective multi-disciplinary defence team. We were able to work closely with the client’s international schedule and work alongside several different time-zones often resulting in working through the night UK time to meet the demands of the client and the case.

At MPR solicitors, our HNW department can offer a totally bespoke and tailored package to our clients’ needs and requirements from a Partner only service to an on-call retainer operating 24/7.
