Client escapes a mandatory prison sentence for possession of a disguised stun gun

MPR Solicitors were instructed  to represent a returning holidaymaker from Thailand who was stopped at London Heathrow Airport whereupon a stungun disguised as a torch was found in his luggage. He admitted purchasing it but denied he had knowledge that it was a disguised stun gun. Under the provisions of the Firearms Act this offence carries a mandatory 5 year prison sentence. The minimum sentencing provisions for firearms offences would not have applied if the stun gun had not been disguised

Following a contested hearing at the Isleworth Crown Court, a trial of issue which is a hearing to determine the contested issues our client walked out of court with a conditional discharge.
